State police say the driver, who was in his 50's, died at the scene. His wife and son were taken to the hospital but there's no word yet on their conditions. State police say the man's wife told them her husband became ill just moments before he lost control of their S-U-V. At this time-- authorities aren't certain if the man died from his injuries or a medical condition. The victim's name is being withheld until his family can be notified.

Some 200 families that lost their homes in month's flooding will get new ones, thanks in part to Norfolk-Southern and one of its subsidiaries.
N-S will donate 42 acres of flat land in McDowell County, West Virginia to provide temporary and permanent housing.

Murder charges have been returned for the first time in the case of a Salem man gunned down on Melrose Avenue July 10th.
TWO men were indicted today by a Roanoke Grand Jury, alleging a conspiracy to commit robbery. Antoine Lamar Thompson faces nine felonies. A nearly identical indictment was returned against Robert A. Bradburn. This is the first time Bradburn's name has surfaced in this case.
He's one of three or four suspects in the death of Ryan Fischer.

22-year-old Curtis Ray Bailey Junior escaped police custody in Giles County today. Authorities searched for him with dogs and helicopters for more than three hours this morning before the trail went cold.

The West Virginia man is wanted for probation violations and is a suspect in a Giles County robbery. Bailey and three others were arrested in the early morning hours after they led a Narrows Police officer on a chase and ran over his foot. Curtis Bailey was the only one to escape from custody.

22-people are hurt, after two cars on a rollercoaster collided in Massachusetts this afternoon.

The accident took place on the Superman Ride of Steel at the Six Flags New England amusement park. Victims and witnesses say one train rear-ended another one as it was leaving the platform to begin the ride. One victim estimates the train was going up to 40 miles-per-hour when it hit the other one. A statement from park officials says the injuries don't appear to be serious. The superman Ride is closed while engineers investigate the cause of the wreck.

Ken High Junior was speeding down an Otis Air National Guard Speedway Sunday when his vehicle flipped multiple times. The jet-powered truck reached speeds of nearly three hundred miles an hour and was slowing down when it flipped. High managed to escape. He'd been trying to set a landspeed record for S-U-V's. A preliminary investigation indicates the drag parachutes that were supposed to stop the S-U-V malfunctioned.

Authorities are still trying to determine why a Lynchburg home caught fire twice in two days.

Firefighters were called out last night for a blaze at this home on Craig Street.
Crews had to go back this morning when a passerby spotted smoke coming from the roof.
Authorities say today's fire apparently started in a first floor closet near some heating and ventilation equipment.
The fire marshal says it's possible yesterday's blaze was hot enough to rekindle another fire today.
The cause is under investigation.

Express head coach Perry Florio announced today that he has traded John Sadowski to the Mississippi Sea Wolves.

This morning, the Amateur Softball Association girls class A fast pitch 18 and under national championship tournament begins at the Moyer sports complex.

97 teams from all 50 states will play. Last night at the Salem Civic Center, the tourney held it's opening ceremonies.
U.S. gold medalist pitcher Michelle Smith, whose Olympic gold team will play the women's professional softball league all stars Thursday, was the keynote speaker.

August 24th, Friday Football Extra begins another season. Yesterday morning, high schools all over the valley began preparing for the season. Salem will try and figure out how to top a state championship year.

To mark the occasion, the Postal Service honored Lucy with a new commemorative stamp.
Lucy's younger brother and actress Virginia Mayo joined others in honoring the queen of comedy.
The stamp goes on sale nationwide tomorrow.
