The Salem facility makes software and hardware for communications testing equipment.
Products there will be moved to another Acterna facility, but engineering and marketing will remain.
Much of that production will be out-sourced to Keltech, another local manufacturer.
Some of the furloughed employees may have an opportunity to transfer there.

Campbell County is getting rid of stachybotrys (statch-ih-BAH-tris) at one of its schools .

Superintendent George Nolley (NAHL-ee) says the stachybotrys (statch-ih-BAH-tris) bacteria was discovered at Yellow Branch Elementary shortly after classes ended in June.
That's the same fungus that was found at Jefferson Forest.
The county has spent 80- thousand dollars cleaning the school's ventilation system and affected areas.
Nolley says he's not aware of any health complaints associated with the mold.

It's called a PET scanner and it's now the best method available to identify the disease.
The PET scanner is capable of detecting up to 90 percent of most types of cancer.

The PET scan works by measuring the metabolic activity of cells--it looks at how much energy a particular tissue is using.

It may become harder for drug users to get high from the perscription painkiller OxyContin.
Yesterday, the maker says it has plans for a ''smart pill'' version.
The new pill would be designed to destroy its own narcotic ingredients if it's crushed into a powder and snorted or injected.
It won't be available for at least three years.

Crews have spent the past two and a half months ridding the school of the stachybotrys (statch-ih-BAH-tris) bacteria that was linked to dozens of health complaints among faculty and students.

It should become official today that K-B toys will move into the former e-Toys distribution center near Danville.
That is likely to mean hundreds of full time jobs, and many more part time positions returning to the building.
K-B took over the e-Toys website, and is the nation's largest combined retail and on-line toy dealer.

Acterna is laying off sixty one of its employees.
The company said yesterday earnings were lower than expected, so consolidation of some of its facilities was necessary.
The Salem facility makes software and hardware for communications testing equipment.
Products there will be moved to another Acterna facility, but engineering and marketing will remain.
