The accident happened around 2:30 on I-81 near the Arcadia exit.

It took crews several hours to cleanup the wreck, causing traffic backups in both directions.

Troopers say the driver of this car was heading northbound when he crossed the median.
A tractor trailer heading southbound then hit the car and drove right over it, killing the driver.
The car then caught fire while the tractor trailer continued on for another 1/2 mile.

The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's office is investigating a suspicious death in Axton.
Deputies say they found Efrain Herrera Velazquez dead on Splendor Gate Road from an apparent gunshot wound.
Velazquez's last known address was Lexington North Carolina, but he was known to have been in the Pittsylvania County area for about 30 days.
Deputies are now trying to figure out where he was staying.

Carilion hopes for now its recommendations for stricter controls on OxyContin prescriptions and its effort to establish community based work groups will be a first step towards recovery.
In the meantime Carilion's Saint Albans hospital plans to expand its inpatient and day resources and its narcotics anonymous program.
For now, Carilion Saint Albans hospital is trying to obtain methadone license for short-term detox.
But in the long run --they hope a new drug called Buprenorphine (Buu -pra-nor-fene) will be the long term fix.

Past financial records of the Roanoke Express Hockey team are so disorganized- -or LOST- -in some instances... the prosecutor says she will have to drop the embezzlement case against former Express General Manager Tony Mancuso.

Last Thursday, Boris was reunited with his mate, Tasha, and their two cubs.
Before that, the cubs and Tasha had been on display during the day while Boris was kept inside.
The cats switched places at night.
The zoo says the cubs needed to be large enough to fend for themselves before being reintroduced to their father.
The siblings were born May fourth.
They now weigh about 14-pounds.
All of the snow leopards are on display daily and will stay at Mill Mountain Zoo for at least a year.

Radford University's head women's basketball coach has resigned. Luby Lichonczak has accepted a position at Colorado State University.
Lichonzcak came to Radford in 1990 he won 6 Big South titles posting an amazing 20 and 5 record in Big South tournament games. He led the Highlanders to 3 N-C-Double-A appearances guiding Radford to tournament berths in 1994, 1995, and 1996.
Assistant Kristen Holt will assume head coaching duties on an interim basis for the 2001-02 season.

Simpson is stepping down after 27 years on the job, saying he's tired of battling city hall over money.
Four candidates have submitted paperwork to be on the ballot: Danny McCain, Mary Randolph-Preston, Herb Duff and Ron Gillespie.
Randolph- Preston, Duff and Gillespie all ran for the office four years ago.
They're scheduled to square off at a voters forum tonight.
