[WX1] [11:00pm] [08/19/2001] [MCU]WEATHER OFFICE [WXPRO/FULL]WEATHER MAP TOMORROW FORECAST [Toss back to anchor]
Tropical Storm Chantal... she's been fighting to strengthen but has had to deal with a poorly organized center and outside wind shear... but Chantal is still expected to become a hurricane, but probably not until tomorrow. Right now she sits in the Caribbean moving to the west at 16 miles an hour heading towards the Yucatan peninsula with top winds very close to Hurricane strength. Chantal is 380 miles east-southeast of Mexico and Hurricane watches are in effect from Cancun to Belize.
Closer to home, we are dealing with a strong line of storms spanning the entire stat of Virginia moving to the east. Some of these storms are dropping half an inch in 30 minutes and some contain gusts of about 30 miles an hour. Patrick County is currently under a flash flood warning. But the stormy weather should be moving out of our region sometime after midnight.
Tomorrow we look forward to partly sunny skies with just a small chance for scattered afternoon showers, maybe a passing storm with temperatures sitting in the eighties. The seven day planner is coming up in just a moment.[Wildfires
