A major highway through the New River Valley is blocked at this hour, after a tanker truck crashed, spilling diesel fuel along the roadway.

This happened around 9 AM .. on US-460 in Pembroke in Giles County .. and that's blocking traffic in both directions. Rachel Cannon is in Pembroke. She joins us now on the phone.

You might find a lot of Virginians heading for the border today-- the WEST VIRGINIA border.
The multi-state Powerball jackpot is worth 200- million dollars.
With the drawing tonight, ticket sales are booming near state lines.

The tickets are popping up as fast as the money is being dished out.
Powerball fever has already swept the nation. Now, someone is hoping to
mop up 200-million dollars.

Obviously, a lot of people think, they can spend that kind of money.
Powerball outlets are running non-stop in 21 states and Washignton, DCTERMS.

This little station in Covington, Kentucky, is doing gangbusters. One
reason, it's just across the border froom Cincinnati, Ohio, a state that

A spokesman for Powerball says this has become a social event.

Shannon Hoenig says her station sold 26-thousand dollars in tickets on
Monday... Tuesday, 37-thousand... today she expects it to top

The Big Game jackpot, meantime, is hardly small potatoes.
There was no winner last night, so Friday's jackpot will be worth at least 74 million dollars.
A fungus found in a Roanoke building forced 50 employees out of their work space yesterday.
The top floor of the Fountain Square building on second street -- occupied by Carilion -- was found to have a fungus similar to that found in a typical basement.
While not hazardous, it was causing unpleasant smells and inducing allergy like symptoms.
Carilion tested the building after employee complaints about the its smell.
Carilion is currently looking for office space to house the 50 employees affected by the evacuation.
Carilion did NOT test the other floors of the building.

California authorities plan to distribute fliers in neighborhoods throughout the Sacramento area.
It's part of a stepped-up effort to find Ukrainian immigrant Nikolay Soltys, who's suspected of killing his wife and five other family members.

Authorities found the body of Soltys's three- year- old son in a box, just a few miles away from the other victims.
They say Soltys left a note in his car, describing how the child would be found.
Meanwhile, police are staking out bus terminals and airports, in hopes of finding the alleged killer.
An unexpected rain shower will delay today's landing of the Space Shuttle Discovery by a couple of hours.
NASA's hoping the skies clear in time for a 2-23 landing this afternoon.
Discovery is the ride home for three international space station
astronauts, who are wrapping up five and a-half months in orbit.
A team of doctors will be on hand in Florida to help the crew
re-adapt to Earth's gravity.
Mark Earley says he wants to build a better future for Virginia's young people.
The GOP candidate for governor was joined by the rest of the party's ticket, Jerry Kilgore and Jay Katzen, at a press conference in Roanoke this morning.
The trio helped redub Roanoke's GOP headquarters as the "Victory Center" in honor of the successful campaigns staged there by Senator George Allen and Mayor Ralph Smith.
Earley says he plans to win on his family values campaign, because it also applies to Virginia's young singles.

Some ice cream sold at Food Lion stores in Virginia is being recalled.

The company is recalling half-gallon packages of Food Lion Fudge Royale ice cream, because it may contain peanuts or pieces of peanuts.
Food Lion says people who are allergic to peanuts risk a serious or even life-threatening reaction if they eat the ice cream.
The ice cream comes in square half-gallon containers with the U-P-C number 3-5-8-2-6- 0-0-5-7-3 and a code date of 04- Twelve- 02.
80 people who used to work at a New River Valley car dealership are wondering what's next.
This after Bank of America seized Hudson Automotive Group's Pulaski dealership, and closed down the business.
The employment commission's New River Valley office reports an influx of Hudson employees who are applying for benefits.
Bassett Furniture has announced it will eliminate 250 to 300 Henry County jobs this fall.
The company says it will close its chair plant and associated rough mill in Bassett.
Bassett Furniture says it will import occasional chairs and cribs instead of making them in Henry County.
The company says its long-term health depends on shifting from just a maker of furniture .. to one that also imports and sells furniture.
The job picture looks more promising for K-B Toys in Pittsylvania County. It has doubled it's workforce in two weeks.
K-B took over the old e-Toys facility on August 10th, and now has almost one hundred employees.
K-B will hire seventy more over the next two weeks.
The on-line toy retailer plans to start shipping toys from Blairs as early as next month.
And there is some promising economic news for Franklin County.
In the last year-- the area has lost some 800- jobs.
But as Teresa Hamilton reports-- there are some positive things on the horizon.

NATO makes it official--
It's authorized the deployment of 35- hundred allied troops to Macedonia.
NATO Secretary- General George Robertson held a news conference today in Belgium.
Robertson says the deployment will help restore peace in Macedonia by disarming ethnic Albanian rebels, and destroying their weapons.
The allied mission comes at a time when the Bush administration wants to move U-S troops out of the Balkans.
Only several hundred Americans will take part.
Full deployment of troops could take up to two weeks.
It's no longer classified as a typhoon, but a tropical storm is still causing thousands of evacuations in central Japan.
Nearly 50- thousand people were ordered out of their homes today.
So far, the storm has killed four people and injured dozens more as it bore down on Tokyo.
It's packing winds up to near 70- miles-per-hour.
While the outer areas of typhoons often pass over Japan this time
of year, officials said this was the first typhoon to directly hit the main island in two years.

As far as other crashes that will occur in the future - NASCAR says starting next year, it will install black boxes inside the cars to collect crash data.

The recommended detour involves Interstate 81 and Virginia 100 between Christiansburg and Pearisburg.
