Nikolay Soltys is still on the run and now investigators think the man
accused of killing 6 of his family members is a career criminal--a thug
and con artist whos been praying on the elderly and other members of
his community.
Captain John McGinness, Sacramento Sheriffs Department:
Within the community from which he comes, poverty is pretty much the norm and I think hes been depriving other people from their welfare money and part time employment and anything they can get their hands on and doing through intimidation and in some cases physical force.
The information is coming from Sacramentos Ukrainian and Russian neighborhoods.
Some members of the community are talking more than others, but we are encountering a great deal of reluctance. (I can only speculate as to
why that reluctance may be present.) I think there is a fear of him and a fear of law enforcement and government in general.
That fear is apparent at the areas Russian radio station where callers talk about the fugitive.
(Yuriy Korotkov, KJAY Radio)
Fear of deathpeople in Russian community worry (paraphrase)
Because of Soltys' alleged history of extortion, police think he may
have a large amount of cash and access to cars. They think hes still
in the area, but theyre not sure.
McGinness:
I think somebody is assisting in harboring him here or getting him out of the area and that person or persons may be doing so because he's intimidating him or forcing him or because they are unaware of what it is hes alleged to have done.
One possible place he may be going is Charlotte, because he has
relatives there))
