(((LOCATOR: NEW YORK CITY)
The Statue of Liberty is one of the most famous landmarks in New York City but this morning the symbol of freedom took hold of a stuntman who came to close.About 9:30 am East Coast Time a man with a motorized hang-glider attached to his back got stuck on the statue when the strings of his parasail got tangled in the torch.

(SOT) Nick Russo -- Tourist from London

"It looked like a James Bond sort of thing! This piece of kit on his back called a paraglider ... a big parachute ... and a propeller encased on his back ... I thought it was Sean Connery coming down to take the bad guys away!"
For more than half an hour the man known as professional stuntman Terry Do was 200 feet above the ground literally hanging by a thread.
Within minutes, a group of rescuers made it to the top of torch to try and help the man and eventually helped Do pull himself to safety. While the stuntman did make it back safely to the ground its not a real happy ending. The man left the statue in handcuffs apprehended by police.

(GRETCHEN CARLSON TAG)

The most disappointed people in this whole ordeal are the tourists who came to the Statue to visit. Although they got quite a show - the statue has been officially closed for the day.
