More than a half-million pounds of ground beef from a Wisconsin company are being recalled.
It COULD be tainted with a strain of E. coli bacteria.
The beef was distributed to 17 states INCLUDING Virginia.

The beef comes from American Foods Group in Green Bay.
So far, the company says, it has NOT caused anyone to become sick.
The beef has a sell-by date of August 19th and a label with the U-S-D-A establishment number 410.
It can be returned to the store where it was purchased.

A poll done by the Washington Post indicates that Democrat Mark Warner has built an early lead over Republican Mark Earley.

According to the poll-- Warner is ahead in every region of the state.
Statewide-- Warner leads Earley 51 percent to 37 percent with a margin of error of 3 percentage points.

With 10 weeks before the election political observers warn that the gap between the two will decrease next month, when the battle heats up to election day on November 6th.
The poll also comes on the heels of Warner's August television-and-mail blitz, which cost him more than one-point-two million dollars.

To help them get back into the swing of things .. students from the town of Kimball in McDowell County will receive a free meal and school supplies when they return to classes today.

Authorities in Lynchurg say a woman is dead after jumping from the Rivermont Avenue bridge shortly after 4-o'clock yesterday afternoon.
Police say they do NOT suspect foul play.
They are not releasing her name until family members can be notified.

Archaeologists believe they've discovered the remains of James Madison's boyhood home.
