The boy was bitten on the leg yesterday while surfing with his father and two brothers, just south of Virginia Beach.

Officials say the bite severed an artery causing David (pell-Tee-ay) Peltier of Richmond to lose massive amounts of blood. The little boy's father, who was surfing nearby, freed his son from the shark's jaws after hitting it on the head. They were swimming 150- feet from shore in about four feet of water.

A water main break in Roanoke has left several homes without water and forced the closure of a busy road.

The water line broke in front of the Shenandoah Life building on Brambleton Avenue this afternoon. Water rushed down and partially flooded Fishburne park. Roanoke Police say their 9-1-1 switchboard has been swamped with calls about water service. Crews are working on the water main break, but city officials say it may be late tonight before the break can be fixed.

Residents in Danville will be asked to conserve water tomorrow.

The city needs to repair a faulty gate on Dan River Incorporated's Schoolfield Dam. In order to complete the repairs, the water level in the reservoir will be lowered to allow access for workers. As a result, Danville's water intake point will be inoperable all day Monday. City officials are asking residents to conserve water until levels can return to normal Tuesday morning.

Blacksburg will be welcoming a new medical school come 2003.
A school of Osteopathic Medicine will be built in Virginia Tech's Corporate Research Center.
There's no official affiliation yet, but negotiations are in the works.

There's already an Osteopathy school just 90 minutes outside of Roanoke in Lewisburg, West Virginia.
The school generates $25 million in revenues for the small community each year.
A school like that could be a shot in the arm for Blacksburg. [PRE PRO]
Finally, a rough week on Wall Street caused the Dow to finish under ten thousand at 9950 for the week.
And the NASDAQ closed up 13 and three quarters at 18-05.

Head Trainer Mike Goforth said today that the left knee was swollen and that Lee was experiencing pain which means its a new injury requiring Surgery.
Gorforth said the surgery to repair the A-C-L and the Meniscus will take place in 2 weeks after the swelling and pain subsides.
The injury occured on what appeared to be an innocent looking sweep around the left end.
Keith Burnell, who rushed for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win over Connecticut will become the starter.
And Freshman Kevin Jones will become the back up running back.
