Colorado- based Kinder Morgan wants to spend 300 million dollars building a gas- fired power plant just off Route 501 in northern Campbell County.
In addition to electricity, the plant would generate about a million dollars in new revenue each year, and 25 new jobs once it's up and running.
But neighbors along Eastbrook Road are worried about construction noise, traffic and dropping property values.

Firefighters are struggling tonight to put out a blaze that swept through downtown Nassau... destroying a popular tourist market and three major buildings and inflicting damage on a history museum.
Area buildings were evacuated along Bay Street.... the capitol's main artery- including the British Colonial Hotel.
Clouds of black smoke could be seen miles away.
The flames roared for six hours before firefighters could gain control.
The market area... was destroyed along with most of its merchandise.
It's where hundreds of vendors sell straw hats, handbags and other souvenirs.
Fire also destroyed the Tourism Ministry, office complex.. and restaurants.

A fiery police chase in California today.

Police in Long Beach say a disgruntled city employee led them on a "more- than- two- hour" chase in a stolen tow truck.
Cops dropped spike strips, but the driver refused to stop and took off with a line of sparks trailing behind.
Hours later, the truck burst into flames and the driver pulled over.
But even with smoke pouring out, the suspect refused to come out for a few minutes.
Finally police handcuffed the man, firefighters rushed in to extinguish the fire

The Salem Avalanche battled the Kinston Indians in game two of their three game Carolina League playoff series last night. Kinston turns the tables on Salem from last night's shutout and blanks the Avs 6-nothing. Indians pitcher Mike Segal had six strikeouts in six innings. The third and final game that will decide the series is tonight.

The Virginia Horse Center once again played host to the Rick Mast Charity Classic as several thousand fans stood in line for hours to meet some of their racing heroes.
Mast founded this event in the mid 90s to raise money and awareness for the Rockbridge Area Free Clinic.
$300 thousand dollars has been raised to date, and as a result, Mast is a finalist for this year's True Value Man of the Year award.

Roanoke favorite son KJ Hippensteel begins his senior year at Stanford this season. He finished last year as the 13th ranked tennis player in the country and he is hungrier than ever to prove he's the best this season.

Last night KJ, was in town helping to promote the game. He joined Brenda Schultz McCarthy, who was ranked as high as 8th in the world in women's tennis, at an exhibition at Hunting Hills Country club. KJ's former coach and mentor John Barker planned the event that was a hit for everyone.
