A special prosecutor says he will not bring charges against the second-in -command of the Martinsville Police Department.
That announcement follows a month-long investigation into drunk driving allegations.

A shooting in Pittsylvania County leaves one man dead and a woman injured.
The sheriff's department says 52-year-old Gerry Wayne Dillard shot and killed himself, after shooting a woman at a mobile home park near (Bras-ville) Brosville.
38-year-old Coretha Clark of Cascade was taken to the Danville hospital; no word on her condition.
Dillard had been in jail for perjury. He got out on work release this morning.

The fire destroyed a popular tourist market and charred a national museum.
It also forced the evacuation of hundreds of tourists and business people.
It took hours to bring the fire under control.
Witnesses have apparently told police they saw a man using gasoline or some other flammable liquid to set the fire.
Four people were hurt in the blaze.

Ironically, Goforth says he received a call from an NFL team trainer yesterday wondering if Suggs still might enter the NFL draft next year. The trainer said even with the injury he would be a fourth round pick. Suggs plans to rehab, return to Tech in 2002 and hopefully end up a first round selection.

For starters the team has named Harold Ellis as the team's assistant coach. The 30 year old Ellis played in the NBA for the Clippers and the Nuggets.
Also, the Dazzle announced today that its preseason debut will take place on Saturday night November 10th at 7:30 against the Greenville Groove at the Roanoke Civic Center.
The team's regular season opener is set for the following weekend on Sunday night, November 18th.
