A special prosecutor says he will not bring charges against the second-in -command of the Martinsville Police Department.
That announcement follows a month-long investigation into drunk driving allegations.

State police say 40-year-old Major Clarence (SIME-ing-ton) Simmington was found asleep inside his severely damaged pickup truck early on the morning of August 8th.
Special prosecutor Don Caldwell says he agrees with the state police's decision not to charge Simmington because there were no injuries, no witnesses and no proof of a collision.

A shooting in Pittsylvania County leaves one man dead and a woman injured.
The sheriff's department says 52-year-old Gerry Wayne Dillard shot and killed himself, after shooting a woman at a mobile home park near (Bras-ville) Brosville.
38-year-old Coretha Clark of Cascade was taken to the Danville hospital; no word on her condition.
Dillard had been in jail for perjury. He got out on work release this morning.

Police say arson is suspected in the blaze that swept through downtown Nassau.
The fire destroyed a popular tourist market and charred a national museum.
It also forced the evacuation of hundreds of tourists and business people.
It took hours to bring the fire under control.
Witnesses have apparently told police they saw a man using gasoline or some other flammable liquid to set the fire.

Four people were hurt in the blaze.

The Roanoke Dazzle is making some more off the court moves today. For starters the team has named Harold Ellis as the team's assistant coach. The 30 year old Ellis played in the NBA for the Clippers and the Nuggets. Also, the Dazzle announced today that its preseason debut will take place on Saturday night November 10th at 7:30 against the Greenville Groove at the Roanoke Civic Center. The team's regular season opener is set for the following weekend on Sunday night, November 18th.
