A special prosecutor says he will not bring charges against the second-in -command of the Martinsville Police Department.
That announcement follows a month-long investigation into drunk driving allegations.

State police say 40-year-old Major Clarence (SIME-ing-ton) Simmington was found asleep inside his severely damaged pickup truck early on the morning of August 8th.

A shooting in Pittsylvania County leaves one man dead and a woman injured.
The sheriff's department says 52-year-old Gerry Wayne Dillard shot and killed himself, after shooting a woman at a mobile home park near (Bras-ville) Brosville.
38-year-old Coretha Clark of Cascade was taken to the Danville hospital; no word on her condition.
Dillard had been in jail for perjury. He got out on work release this morning.

The fire destroyed a popular tourist market and charred a national museum.
It also forced the evacuation of hundreds of tourists and business people.

Witnesses have apparently told police they saw a man using gasoline or some other flammable liquid to set the fire.

Four people were hurt in the blaze.
