(Narr:)

With gloom about the economy only deepening... President Bush is facing mounting pressure to do something now to stop the slide. Today worried Republicans floated a perennial favorite... new tax cuts... starting with chopping the capital gains rate from 20 to 15 percent.

(SOT/SEN MINORITY LEADER TRENT LOTT/STAKEOUT)

"I think we should have a capital gains tax rate cut. It would have an immediate effect on the economy."

(Narr:)

Reducing the capital gains tax on investments would open Republicans to charges of helping the rich. So Senator Don Nickles is also pushing a cut in the social security payroll tax... which is paid by both employers and workers.

(SOT/NICKLES/FACE:)

"MAYBE WE SHOULD HAVE A TEMPORARY REDUCTION IN SOCIAL SECURITY TAXES. THAT WOULD ALLOW.. THAT'S A MIDDLE-INCOME TAX CUT, THAT'S FOR ANYBODY WHO MAKES UP TO 80-THOUSAND DOLLARS."

(Narr:)

The White House has been silent on what, if any, additional tax cuts the President would support. Mr. Bush has said he wants to give more time for the massive 10-year one-trillion dollar tax cut he signed in June to work. And even though many Democrats went along with that cut...the Democratic leadership insists the bad economy is the PRESIDENT'S problem.

(SOT/SENATE DEMOCRATIC LEADER TOM DASCHLE)

"IT'S NOT REALLY OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO OFFER A WAY OUT OF THE BUSH ECONOMY. IT'S THE PRESIDENT THAT GOT US TO THIS SITUATION, AND I THINK IT'S THE PRESIDENT THAT NEEDS TO LEAD US OUT.

(Narr:)

That strategy, says political columnist E.J. Dionne, is to let the White House take the heat for now.

(SOT/E.J. DIONNE)

"I THINK IN THE SHORT RUN, DEMOCRATS WANT TO TAKE AS MUCH TIME AS THEY CAN HOLDING BUSH ACCOUNTABLE WITHOUT HAVING TO PUT SOMETHING ON THE TABLE THEMSELVES."

(ONCAMERA CLOSE:)

Both sides face tough choices... The President and the Republicans, whether to push for new tax cuts...the Democrats, whether to cut favorite programs. And if the economy continues its slide, the parties are soon going to have to stop finger pointing, and looking for solutions. Stephanie Lambidakis, CBS News, Washington.

(A lot of kids are picky eaters-- and for a mom to say, this is good for you-- might be a turnoff for them. What do you think it is about these food items that kids will go for?)

(Should kids have a say in what they pack in their lunches?)

(I was reading an article on the Internet that said children get about a THIRD of their daily calories at lunch time.

So, this is not a meal to skimp on..)

(It seems like there's more focus these days on kids eating healthier than it was when a lot of us were growing up-- Do

you think it's because kids tend to be more sendentary now with T-V and computers?)

(And we always hear about how important it is to stick to the Food guide pyramid-- how do these foods fit into that-- t

o ensure kids get enough fruits and veggies?)

(Should kids always drink milk at lunch-- what about juices?)
