President Bush authorized the defense department to call up 50-thousand reservists. That "partial mobilization" of troops is similar to what happened a decade ago when reservists were called upon to participate in Desert Storm.
With down-sizing of active military branches in recent years National Guard Troops and Reserve Units could make up 50-percent or more of an assault force, if and when war comes.
