The Lynchburg Regional Airport has not had jet service for more than six years.. but its smaller, commuter flights are feeling the pinch.

U-S Airways Express has canceled five flights originating in Lynchburg through the end of the month.
They include four flights to Charlotte and one to Pittsburgh.. each leaves Lynchburg at least six days a week.
No word on how long those flights will remain canceled.
Airport manager Mark Courtney says.. so far.. no other airlines have eliminated flights there.

Johnson has been out of law enforcement since retiring from the Marshal's Service in 1975. He's now an ordained minister and serves as Chaplain at Franklin Memorial Hospital. Volvo announced job and production cuts at the New River Valley plant today.

Officials at the company's Greensboro headquarters say one-hundred jobs are being eliminated at the end of November.

They blame a continuing downturn in the economy. The number of trucks the location produces each day is also being cut. Starting at the end of November, they will reduce the number of trucks put out every day by 10.... for a total of 50.

Volvo officials also say the Dublin facility will be off-line from November 12th to the 16th.

An Amherst County teenager who slipped out of the county jail last month has been captured after three weeks on the run.

19- year- old Jason Scott Owen escaped just one day before he was to stand trial on malicious wounding and robbery charges.

Owen walked out a side door of the jail's recreation yard.. the door's electronic lock apparently malfunctioned.


Authorities say he's been traveling the southeast with his 18- year- old girlfriend.. they were arrested yesterday at a Madison Heights home police had kept under surveillance.

A truck driver is facing reckless driving charges after flipping his log truck in Bedford County this morning.

Authorities say 50- year- old Perry Morgan Payne Jr. of Brookneal was headed north on Route 501 when he lost control of his rig around 10:30.
The truck flipped, spilling its load of logs over the guardrail and blocking one lane of traffic.
Rescue crews say Payne wasn't hurt in the crash.. they were able to contain fuel and oil that spilled from the overturned truck before it reached nearby creeks.
