A Carroll County teenager will spend the next 21 years in prison for killing her 80 year old grandfather.

Robin Martin was 15 years old when she shot John Mesics in the head with a 12 gauge shotgun.
It happened in July of 1999.
A jury convicted her of first degree murder last year.
Yesterday, a judge sentenced her to 21 years in prison.
Martin will be eligible for parole in 2020, when she is 36 years old.
The court also ordered her to pay 35 hundred dollars in restitution to her grandmother for her grandfather's funeral expenses.

There's been another death attributed to yesterday's tornadoes that struck suburbs around Washington.

A 78- year old volunteer firefighter collapsed and died after helping clean up the damage. Two sisters-- on the University of Maryland campus also died in the storms. The women were killed when winds overturned their car and tossed it around outside a dorm. The father of the dead sisters is also among the injured. The school canceled classes today as crews clean up. Several buildings were damaged and some mobile homes containing offices were destroyed.

A warning from the government to the makers of Vioxx. The government is telling Merck to cease promotions aimed at getting doctors to prescribe the arthritis painkiller. The Food and Drug Administration says the promotions minimize potential safety risks. The F-D-A says a recent study suggests Vioxx users face an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes. Merck says the study made a bad comparison that falsely indicated a risk for Vioxx. An F-D-A advisory panel has said Vioxx should carry a warning label about the potential risk.

Michelle Barker is certified in deaf instruction and sign interpretation. A teacher at The Little Lambs Christian Day Care and Preschool, she's trained to teach hearing and deaf students. The school says its program for the hearing impaired and deaf is a first in the N-R-V. Barker wants to reach kids while they're young.
