Federal authorities outlined their case in court against a Central Virginia resident... a man the government says is a leader in the violent Muslim extremist group, Al Fuqra. At the end of today's hearing, Vincente Rafael Pierre was ordered held without bond, despite his protests that Al Fuqra means "poor" or "destitute," that he is merely a spiritual seeker who has no ties to this mortal world.

Pierre is charged with illegal purchase, possession and disposal of a single hand-gun. The charges go back more than three years, when he allegedly bought the .45 caliber pistol from a licensed gun dealer in Spout Spring. But the indictment is clearly part of the government's urgent effort to piece together the larger puzzle of domestic terrorism in the United States. An Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agent today testified to Pierre's involvement in Al Fuqra, an organization the government says is a dangerous fundamentalist group... one responsible for the assassination of a Muslim Imam in Tucson and the bombing on the World Trade Center in 1993.
