A man whom the government says is a leader in the violent Muslim extremist group Al Fuqra is being held without bond.

Federal authorities outlined their case against Vincente Rafael Pierre of Central Virginia.

Pierre is charged with illegal purchase, possession and disposal of a single hand-gun. The charges date back three years, when he allegedly bought a 45 caliber pistol from a licensed gun dealer. An Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agent yesterday testified to Pierre's involvement in Al Fuqra, an organization the government says is a dangerous fundamentalist group.

A 22-year old man was airlifted to the hospital after a hit and run accident last night. Blacksburg police say around 8:00 - the man was crossing Progress Street in the 400 block when a vehicle hit him and drove away. The pedestrian was transported by AMBULANCE to Montgomery Regional Hospital and later AIRLIFTED to Carilion Roanoke Memorial where he is in serious condition.

An accident in Bedford County sent one woman to the hospital with serious injuries last night.

The accident happened in front of the Wal-Mart around six .. and tied up traffic on Route 4-60 for hours. Police say a woman driving a white station wagon turned the wrong way onto 4-60 hitting a motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and police have not released her name. A preliminary investigation said alcohol may have played a role in the accident.

A fire that destroyed a home in southeast Roanoke may not have been an accident, according to officials.

Investigators have ruled out accidental causes for the fire at 11th Street and Bullitt Avenue.
They say it started in the back of the building and spread throughout the rest of the house.
The owner, (Ka-zall Al Roo-bye) Khazal Al-Rubaii, is a native of Iraq.
Authorities are looking into the possibility that his home was targeted because he's from the Middle East.

A Botetourt County woman charged with embezzlement from a local 4-H club has paid the four thousand dollars she's accused of taking.

Betty Jo McNeil, the group's treasurer, was using the money to pay family bills, according to her attorney.
McNeil was missing for three weeks.
After she disappeared, authorities noticed missing funds from the 4-H horse and pony club.
McNeil turned herself in to authorities two weeks ago.
According to officials, she still could face a felony embezzlement charge that MAY be reduced to a misdemeanor.
