The big race weekend in Charlotte got off to an ominous start, as up-and-coming driver Blaise Alexander was killed during last night's ARCA series race at the Lowe's Motor Speedway. Ironically, the late Dale Earnhardt's oldest son, Kerry, was involved in the fatal wreck.

Alexander had just tried to pass Earnhardt, when the two hit-- sending Alexander's car head-on into the outside wall in the tri-oval area. Alexander's car bounced back into the infield grass, while Earnhardt's car flipped on its roof and caught on fire as it slid down the front stretch. Earnhardt was able to climb out of his car and catch his breath on the extended pit road wall. Alexander never regained consciousness after the crash. Emergency workers say he was unresponsive during the 25 minutes they tried to revive him. Alexander was 25 years old. He's the 7th stock car driver to die at the Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Death by electric chair is no more in Georgia--
The state's supreme court ruled today four to three, that the electric chair is unconstitutional, because it inflicts cruel and unusual punishment.
The Georgia legislature has made lethal injection an option -- just in case the court ruled this way.
Alabama and Nebraska are now the ONLY two states with the electric chair as the sole method of execution.
