The Taliban fired on-- but missed an unidentified plane flying high over Afghanistan's capital.

Soldiers fired at the silver- colored aircraft using anti-aircraft guns and two missiles. Taliban officials say their weapons simply could not reached the plane, which eventually disappeared into the blue sky. Afghanistan's airspace is currently closed to all traffic. There's been no comment from the Pentagon on the incident.

The bodies, located in a smoky area of the rubble, were covered with American Flags as they were carried away by firefighters. Rain today helped control the smell of burning debris, but workers have been forced to wear rain jackets while they continue their efforts. As of last night the total number of persons missing was 4,986 and the number of recovered bodies was 380.

More relatives arrived in Russia today to identify victims of yesterday's jetliner crash over the Black Sea.

Officials at a Russian airport displayed some of the debris that was recovered from the crash site. Several metal fragments of the plane are filled with small holes which some think are bullet holes, others say the marks point to a missile blast. A Russian prosecutor says investigators are focusing on two theories-- an explosion or a mechanical problem. The plane carried 66 passengers and 12 crew members.

Authorities are looking for a man who attempted to hijack a medical transport plane in New Mexico. The transport was picking up a baby from an area hospital. Authorities say as paramedics went to get the child, a hooded man entered the plane's back door and put a knife to the pilot's neck.

Roanoke Catholic was looking for its first win of the season as Blessed Sacrament took on the Celtics at Victory Stadium.

The Knight's get on the board first when a deep punt leaves the Celtics in their on end zone and a mishandled snap leads to a safety Sacrament led 2 to nothing.
Then in the second half Brenden Besci takes the hand off and he scores on the 36 yard run and the Knights led the Celtics 9 to nothing.

Biffle then took the checkered flag under caution winning the race in only his 3 time racing at the Lowes Motor Speedway.

Camp Bethel in Botetourt County played host to its Heritage Day festival today. 90 Brethren churches gathered for the annual fall event that generates money to support the camp year round. This year the sale of apple butter and crafts was supplemented by the sale of golf balls. 309 balls were sold for 5 dollars a piece. They were then numbered, mixed up and taken to the top of this fire truck from the Hollins station. The balls were then dropped all at once onto a makeshift green.
