Yesterday's military actions in Afghanistan had an affect on the scheduled debate between Republican Mark Earley and Democrat Mark Warner as well.
The debate did NOT happen .... but organizers are still hopeful it can be rescheduled.

Virginians have until 5 o'clock tomorrow to register to vote for the state's next governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and 100 members of the House of Delegates. Four people including two young children died in an accident in Pittsylvania County.

The accident happened on Route 640 near Java just after eight o'clock Saturday night. State Police say 26 year Anthony Davis was driving a 95 Hyundai when he lost control, swerved into the left lane and hit a 98 Dodge Ram Truck head-on. All four passengers in the Hyundai died, including a six year old boy and a three year old girl. None were wearing seatbelts. The driver of the Dodge Ram was taken to a Roanoke Hospital.

An accident was to blame for a major back-up on Interstate 81, but traffic is moving once again.

It happened just after three o'clock yesterday on the northbound side of I-81 at the Ironto exit.
State Police say traffic had slowed down when a tractor trailer hit another tractor trailer causing it to hit a jeep.

A hazmat crew was called in to clean up 150 gallons of diesel fuel.
The left lane remained closed for more than five hours, causing a backup of more than fifteen miles.
