Governor Gilmore took to Virginias airwaves tonight not only telling Virignians what the commonwealth is doing to protect itself, but also announcing several things to help Virginians wallets.
He's increasing unemployment benefits- and releasing money for a new building at Virginia Tech...
First though, his plan to keep Virignia Safe.

Gilmore spelled out just what is being done.. including national guard troops at nine Virginia airports. The State Police are on high alert and securitys been beefed up at the state's nuclear power plants.
Gilmore says the state is monitoring the transportation of hazardous materials on Virginia's highways and in its tunnels...and keeping a close eye on cargo coming into ports.
He also says state health officials are monitoring for any evidence of biological or chemical agents.
And as for the economic hit taken in Virginia..... AS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE ATTACK ON VIRGINIA ECONOMY HAS LOST ONE POINT TWO BILLION DOLLARS
To help spur the economy Gilmore's increasing unemployment benefits from 268 dollars a week to a maximum of 368 dollars a week for six months- retroactive to September 9th. I TOOK SIMILAR ACTION WHEN TULTEX LAID OFF PEOPLE IN SOUTHSIDE TWO YEARS AGO.. THE ACTION I'M TELLING YOU TONIGHT WILL HELP PEOPLE LAID OFF BY GOODYEAR.
And a huge boost to Virginia Tech- The Governors releasing 30 million dollars to build a new science building at Tech and a new engineering and computer facility at Old Dominion University.))

The F-B-I's been called in to investigate a bomb scare on the Virginia Tech Campus.
This afternoon someone found a suspicious device in a bathroom at the Newman Library.
At this hour, several buildings remain evacuated.

They used robotic cameras to inspect the device but could not exactly determine whether it was explosive.
