Coming into tonight - the seventh week of the season - four teams in that district were still unbeaten - including Glenvar and Floyd County. Last night those two high powered programs got together in Floyd to see which one could master the other.

The Floyd Faithful were rocking the house at halftime as their Buffaloes led 7-to-nothing at halftime. We pick it up in the third as Floyd quarterback Isaac Spence goes up top, but has his pass picked off by Glenvar's Nate Parks. The Highlanders are back in business as Parks gets the ball back to the 16 yard line. Glenvar would finally turn the Floyd turnover into a score with 1:56 left in the third as Adam Hill fights his way into the endzone from 11 yards out. However, it was a costly score as Hill had to leave the game with the dreaded high ankle sprain on his left ankle. Glenvar would go for one and the tie, but the kick is wide right and Floyd stays on top 7-to-6. Glenvar would get one more crack with under two minutes to go. The Highlanders go to their bag of tricks with backup Cam Pickle pitching the ball back to Parks. The funster will attempt the halfback pass. But Floyd knocks down the try and it's still 7-6. Two plays later, Glenvar has its final shot on a 4th and 10. Pickle is flushed out of the pocket, and the

The Three Rivers' other two undefeated teams hooked up in Radford tonight. The Bobcats were expected to reach this point in the season unscathed, but few expected Eastern Montgomery to be perfect in week seven.

Radford's ball handler for the night Gary Davis, took time out to tell his wife Happy Anniversary. She was in the stands - he's probably still in the dog house. We pick it up with Radford in control 17-to-nothing and looking for more. Todd Powers connects with Terrell Dobbins on the 94 yard pass play. Dobbins will pick up a big bunch of YAC - as the yards after the catch pill up. It's 24-to-nothing. The two would hook up again in the third. This time on a fourth and 10 Powers and Dobbins connect for the 30 yard TD.
It's now 31-to-nothing Bobcats in control. Eastern Montgomery would finally avoid the shutout as David Showalter hits Samuel Harless on the 11 yard pass.

Waiting in the wings with just one setback this year outside of district play is Giles. The Spartans have been perfect since their opening night loss to Blacksburg. Tonight they were in Riner tangling with the Auburn Eagles.

Before tonight's game the officials and the crowd paused for a moment of silence to honor Glen Harris, who recently passed away. Harris was a western Virginia official for 30 years. The Giles offense was looking sharp tonight, as in Ben Sharp. He breaks down the right sideline on this 28 yard run, carrying the ball all the way to the Auburn 28. On the very next play, Sharp will do it again as he takes it in from 14 yards out as the Spartans take a 7-to-nothing lead midway through the 1st. The Eagles would come flying back as Levi Day drops back and connects with Running back Michael Mills who will take it the rest of the way for the 50 yard scoring pass. It's 7-to-6.

Giles would widen its lead in the second as Sharp takes it to the house from 49 yards out. The Spartans beat Auburn tonight 29-to-6. Radford is in Pearisburg next Friday.

Also in region C tonight, the Covington Cougars hosted Parry McCluer in a Pioneer district game that used to be one of Friday Football Extra's top five rivalries back in the day of Woodzell and Williams.

Alfred Fox made sure he got his Ameircan Flag when he came through the gate tonight at Boodie Albert Stadium. With the Blues in Covington territory, Parry McCluer quarterback R.J. Whitmore throws his first pass of the game, unfortunately for him it was to the Cougars' Travis Cottrel. He will take the pick back 61 yards for the score. It's 7-to-nothing Covington. Covington's offense then got in the game Jason Hemp takes the hand-off and then loses it, and the Blues recover to get a turnover of their own.

It was homecoming in Craig County tonight as hundreds of balloons were released before the opening kickoff. The Rockets had the single wing on display and early in the first - Michael Beaudoin takes the snap, fakes, and cuts it right back off the center and he will pick up a first down on the carry. But later in the second the Knights would take control as Derek Hepler fires a pass out to the right side to Duone Tyree who picks up 15 yards on the play. Then on the next play, Hepler sells the fake and Jovan Henderson goes right up the middle and then to the outside on a 25 yard romp.

Through the first 6 games of this season, Cave Spring's defense has been even stingier than Virginia Tech's. The Knights had given up a grand total of 10 points in their first 6 games and pitched 4 shutouts.

But they took the field at the second half of last night's game trailing the Halifax County Comets 13-to-12. Halifax immediately put six more on the board in the third as Alonzo Coleman scores from the two. It's now 20-to-12 Halifax. Coleman was just getting warmed up. Later in the third he heads off the right side, bolts toward the sidelines and just when it looked like the Knights' defense had him bottled up - Coleman will cut all the way back across the field. The run is officially a 77 yarder - although it covers much more ground than that double digit total. He had 4 TDs on the night. It's was 33-to-19 in the fourth before Cave mounted one more comeback. Jeremy White hits number 20 Desmond Jalloh on a 36 yard touchdown pass. It's now 33-to-25 with 2 minutes to go in the game. The Knights would recover the onsides kick, and then on the very next play - it's White hitting Tom Hagan on a 49 yard scoring strike. The Knights get two touchdowns in 9 seconds.

In Rocky Mount, the Franklin County Eagles got back in Cy Dillon Stadium for just the second time this season. Tonight, the Eagles hosted Western Valley district rival Patrick Henry to town.

It was homecoming tonight in the Mount as Josh Grice and Whittany Angle were named the king of queen of Franklin County tonight. It would be a happy homecoming as Franklin County let's Daniel Bowles hook up with Sean Preston on a nice 27 yard gain that gets the Eagles out of trouble deep in their own territory. On the same drive, from their own 47 Taft Kelly rushes left and picks up 19 yards. Franklin County would cap that 99 yard drive with Bowles passing to Casey Hodges on the 16 yard score. The Eagles take a 21-to-7 lead on the Patriots. Patrick Henry's Melvin Smith would break off a 60 yard scoring pass to Dujuan Johnson.

Eagles Head Coach Everett Woods calm, cool, and collected hoping his team would come out strong tonight. And it did in a big way. Already up 14-0 with time running down in the first half, G.W. Quarterback Jon Fulton puts it on the money to Bradford Deshazor as he lands in the endzone. Eagles up 21- zip at half. The second half would be more of the same. This time Fulton gives to Kenny Lewis and he's off to the races. Watch him turn on the afterburners as he outruns the Hilltoppers secondary on way to a 67 yard T.D. run.

Raiders' quarterback Stephen Morse with the nice play fake and toss in the endzone to number 11 Andreas Wokutch. The Raiders who have struggled in recent weeks take control. North Cross also would grind out the ball with some tough running as Bill Kaufman sweeps into the bench area and wipes out a tray of water along the way. Fishburne would come back through the air as George Cooper flings the pass into the end zone and Matthew Cutsali runs under it for the score.

Botetourt's Jared White came in needing just 6 catches to become the state of Virginia's all-time receiving leader. But, Pulaski was on its game from the start as Adam Wheeling, the talented quarterback scoots 24 yards for the touchdown as the Cougars are in front 7-to-0. The Pulaski defense then got into the act as Lucas Nester picks off Eric Driscoll's pass and puts the ball right back in the hands of the Cougars' offense. Two plays later, Wheeling gives the ball to Josh Calfee and Josh will scoot in from 12 yards out. The game is now 14-to-nothing in favor of the Cougars. The Pulaski special teams then take over as the punt is a disaster. Nester picks it up and runs it in for the score.

Fleming would try to answer that score in the first half as Taurus Boyd goes up top, but has his pass tipped by Watkins, right into the hands of his own man Craig Calfee. But on Byrd's next possession, Jeff Highfill dishes the ball out to Jerome Mann. He cuts up the middle through a huge hole, bounce off a defender, hits the sideline and he will take it all the way down to the Salem one yard line. The run covers 76 yards. On the very next play, Mark Mayhew dives in over the pile.

The Warriors' offense then lets Jumper turn out a tough, powerful run as he scores from 56 yards away.

(( This is Calfee's first player of the week honor and that in itself seems hard to imagine. Calfee has been a starter for the Cougars since his freshman season and before this year even began - he was the school's all-time career rushing leader - bettering all of the old marks set by the Hendricks, Carl Lewis and even King Harvey. ((JOEL HICKS:)) Against the Salem Spartans Calfee made his first impression with his defense. Salem thought it would be a good idea to pick on the cornerback early - they were wrong. Calfee set the tone for the evening by stopping their first drive with an interception. ((JOSH CALFEE:)) He broke the game wide open in his usual way in the third quarter by ripping off back to back touchdowns of 80 and 73 yards. In all, Calfee finished with 19 carries for 222 yards. He also added a 2 point conversion to his two scores. ((JOSH CALFEE:)) Calfee, who also is Pulaski County's all-time leading scorer is just five feet nine inches tall and 175 pounds. But he has the one intangible every coach wants - ((JOEL HICKS:)) Calfee hopes to graduate and then enroll in prep school next year. His ultimate goal would be to play college football on any level. That dream and all of his accomplishments were made possible by a life changing experience in his freshman year.
