A moratorium on Internet taxes has just expired, and Virginia senator George Allen wants Congress to keep it in place.

More than sixty bikers took part in the annual Ride Round the Valley toy run for the Community Christmas Store.
Bikers donated ten dollars or a toy for a chance to ride around the Roanoke Valley.
The Community Christmas Store is an organization that assists needy families from Salem, Roanoke County, and Vinton.

19- cheerleading squads took part in the annual Cheerleading Olympics held at Victory Stadium. Cheerleaders aged 6 to 14 had six minutes to perform a chant, a cheer, and a dance routine.
The one dollar admission fee helps to fund youth athletic programs put on by Roanoke's Parks and Recreation Department. Before today's event, the Roanoke Dazzle interactive squad made its first public appearance. They are known as the Star City Squad. The team will perform at all Dazzle home games beginning in November.

An accident in Franklin county has left a Union Hall woman dead. State Police say 62 year old Patricia Shopland was driving along Route 834 when she ran off the road and hit a tree shortly after ten- o'clock yesterday morning. Shopland was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital where she died about an hour later. Police say Shopland was not wearing her seatbelt, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Native American culture took center stage in Roanoke County over the weekend.

It was all part of the 7th annual Native American Pow Wow.
Members of area tribes demonstrated storytelling, dancing, basket weaving, and teepee living.
Indians in full dance regalia also competed for prize money.
The two day event wrapped up yesterday at Green Hill Park in West Salem.

The Roanoke Moose Lodge in Salem hosted the first "Charity Fest."
Each charity set up a booth, where for a small fee you could, among other things, play golf, sing karaoke, as well as have your cariacature done.
Proceeds will go toward seven area charities, including Saint Francis of Assisi, Habitat for Humanity, and Virginia's Association of the Blind.
Yesterday's event raised more than eleven hundred dollars.
