((In the third week of this US war on terrorism, bombs are flying, and so are accusations.

(nats - taliban)

Angry taliban leaders say more than a hundred people were killed when a US bomb struck a military hospital in Afghanistan. Pictures out of Pakistan continue to show dozens injured, or dead. But the pentagon says it's time to set the record straight.

(SOT, VICTORIA CLARKE, PENTAGON SPOKESPERSON, "they regularly throw out

numbers that are completely untrue.")
But new details from US officials reveal, some intended targets 'were' missed, and innocent civilians may have been killed. Over the weekend, American troops targeted a vehicle storage building in Afghanistan, but dropped the 1,000 pound bomb near a senior citizens home instead. The Pentagon isn't sure how many, if any, people were killed.

(SOT, VICTORIA CLARKE, PENTAGON SPOKESPERSON, "We care deeply about the

loss of life, unlike those who carried out the terrorist attacks on sept. 11th.")
But the Taliban says the US is targeting innocent civilians, even with biological warfare.

(SOT - no super, "There were symptoms of chemicals on their bodies.")

(SOT - ARI FLEISCHER/WHITE HOUSE SPOKESMAN "I'm not sure the credibility

of the Taliban runs high outside of their circle, certainly not here in the united states.")
As the war of words continues...so does the fighting.
LOCATOR: BAGRAM, NORTHERN AFGHANISTAN
US war planes dropped bombs on Bagram airport, a strategic frontline between the Taliban and the Northern Alliance. The two groups are locked in fierce fighting, for the key northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif. Military strikes on Afghanistan have destroyed all nine of Osama bin Laden's terrorist training camps and severely damaged nine airfields and 24 military barracks. Taliban leaders are downplaying the attacks, saying Bin Laden is still very much alive.
