An emotional plea tonight from the parents of an Amherst County school student who was struck and killed near her bus stop last month.
They want administrators to take a hard look at overcrowding on the county's buses.. so that another tragedy doesn't have to happen.

Roberson apparently was one of many students who would risk crossing Route 29 in order to get a seat on the bus.. which parents say was dangerously overcrowded.
Roberson's parents are asking the school board to do something.

You may remember the case.. the Roanoke woman who sued a nail salon saying they permanently destroyed her nails. A jury awarded her 150 thousand dollars this past August.
But as of tonight Carol Webb hasn't seen a dime, and she may not.
The judge has thrown out the award... saying it was too excessive.

It was April of 1995 that Webb got her nails done at Top Nails in Roanoke. She sued claiming permanent damage to her nails.
At the first trial the jury awarded only the amount of her medical bills... little more than 15-hundred dollars... The second trial a new jury agreed on a larger award-- 150 thousand dollars. Webb thought the case was over.
But the attorneys for Top Nails asked the judge to throw out the verdict and the award. Judge James Swanson did not set aside the jury's decision that the salon is liable, but he did order a new trial to determine just how much Webb is owed.

An accident killed two people in Patrick County this afternoon.
State Police say 81 year old Hazel Haller of Eden North Carolina was driving south on Route 8 when she ran off the road.
The car then went down a ravine and struck an embankment.
Haller and her husband 90 year old Phillip Haller died a short time later at an area hospital.

Nearly 100 drivers, crew members and car owners met at Joe Gibbs race shop in Huntersville, North Carolina to discuss ways to putting an end to the super dangerous, super speedway racing.

Virginia Tech's Andre Davis is one of 16 recipients nationwide of an $18 thousand dollar post-graduate scholarship.

The National Football Foundation and the College hall of fame bestowed the honor upon Davis who is a three-time academic all-Big East conference selection. ((No plans this Saturday? How about a run....then short bike ride....followed by a quick run over and through the hills and valleys of the scenic Explore Park. Most people are familar with the triathlon, but the Duathlon is becoming more popular while it goes through some changes. ((:))
The Explore Park Duathlon requires a mountain bike. Competitors begin with a two mile run followed by a 10 mile bike and the event closes with another two mile run. The race is for men and women ages 15 to 70. ((:))
