Forestry officials say now is a "critical" time for the threat of forest fires.

A Henry County man accused of killing his best friend has been found guilty of a lesser charge.

George Lincoln Hopkins was charged with first degree murder for killing Larry Thomas Bennett last March.

Prosecutors said Hopkins stabbed Bennett 51 times with a piece of glass from a broken coffee table during a fight.

The defense argued Hopkins was drunk and that it was therefore not premediated.
The jury agreed and found Hopkins guilty of second- degree murder.
The jury recommended a 40 year sentence.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for January.

Fire officials say the blaze began on the parkway, then quickly spread to a wider area.
