"I THINK WHAT WE ARE FINDING IN LOOKING AT SOME OF ROCKWELL'S IMAGES TODAY--IS A REMINDER THAT WE CAN ACHIEVE THAT EVERY-DAY-NESS--THAT TRIVIAL GOOD RICHNESS OF LIFE."
Rockwells works often helped us envision a fantasy world of everything good. We clung to his folksy messages about the small things in life that meant so much. That's what happened during World War two, and that's what's happening now on the homefront--we're longing for the simpler times--simpler times we may never see again.
60 years ago Norman Rockwell painted what he called the Four Freedoms. Perhaps the one we identified most with then and still do today is the "Freedom From Fear." All we want to do is tuck our children into bed--confident they'll be safe. A Rockwellian thought during a not-so Rockwellian time. Drew Levinson, CBS News, New York.))
