Local job losses and falling revenues add up to major budget trouble for Henry County.
Today, the School Board outlined a controversial proposal that could close some schools and consolidate others.

The plan would also bring other changes that include closing three elementary schools.

An Alford plea means she does not admit guilt but agrees there's enough evidence to convict her.

The Dickenson Ridge Fire is burning about three miles southwest of Millboro Springs. 200-acres have been charred. The blaze, which started yesterday, is being fought by three "20-person" crews and local fire departments. There's no word on a cause.

2 of the areas top coaches Cave Springs Billy Hicks and Martinsville's Troy Wells would get an early indication at where their respective teams are.
And the Knights knew pretty quick that J.J. Reddick was on his game. Reddick would drive hard to the hoop and score showing that outside shooting is only part of his game and his Knights would take an 11 point lead in the first quarter.
Reddick would also demonstrate his passing ability on the inbounds he gives to Jason Hurgruder for 2 points.
Martinsville would close the gap in the second quarter Kameron King with the slam dunk to make it 22 to 16 knights in front. But the scrimmage was more about what both teams need to work on in the preseason.

According to coach Cynthia Brown, the Colonels are playing in the state tournament for the first time since the mid 80s. Bassett, their opponent, won the group 2A state championship last year. The Roanoke Express begins a three game in three nights run on Thanksgiving when Greensboro comes to the Roanoke Civic Center. Roanoke will have to play without it's leading scorer.
