Good evening folks and welcome to Friday Friday Football Extra. Let me first begin my wishing each of you a very pleasant Thanksgiving weekend. This is regional championship weekend for high school football across the state. In the next half hour we'll take you on a road trip from Woodbridge to Marion to Chilhowie to Pulaski.
[GRAPHIC=SALEM/PULASKI]

And where better to start than Pulaski County where one of Friday Football Extra all-time great rivalries renewed itself in the Region Three - Division Four title game. This series is virtually a dead heat in the past 15 years, but Pulaski has been dominant of later winning the last two meetings. Tonight, Steve Mason and photographer Lynn Eller were on hand at Kenneth Dobson Stadium to capture the sights and sounds of their latest battle.

The Region Four, division four championship was played tonight in Marion where the Hurricane hosted Magna Vista. The Warriors had to make the trek all the way up from Ridgeway and refocus themselves after last week's emotional win over rival Martinsville.

[SUPER=51-Marion/Magna Vista vs. Marion; :00]

Here's something we haven't said all season long - It was a rainy night for high school football! But the fans still turned out for this one in Marion. That kind of weather, of course favors a Hurricane - and Marion would blow in the first score as Brandon Creasy scores from the nine on the quarterback keeper. It's 6-to-nothing Marion. Marion then went for two and Creasy passes to Joseph Trout and it's 8-to-nothing Canes. That score came in the first quarter and it stayed that way until the 4th - Marion gets its second TD of the night as Marshall Doss runs in from the two to put the Canes on top 14-to-nothing. The Canes again went for two, and again they will get it as Creasy gives it to Doss. Marion has a 16-to-nothing lead on the Warriors. Later in the fourth, Magna Vista would need to get its act together in a hurry and Alexay Hairston scores on the run, and the Warriors cut the lead to 16-to-6. They had no other choice than to go for two, and Hairston will toss it to Ron Foster and it's now 16-to-8 in favor of Marion.

The Hurricanes advance with the 22-to-16 win. They travel to Pulaski next Saturday.

Next up a preview of tomorrow's Gretna-Liberty game, plus we'll head up to Woodbridge and see if George Washington high school was able to pull off an upset against unbeaten C.D. Hylton. Welcome back everybody to Friday Football Extra. We are crowning regional champions tonight as we had to travel
[GRAPHIC=GW DANVILLE/HYLTON]

all the way to Woodbridge to see who would claim the Group Three A, division six, Northwest regional crown. George Washington, which needed four overtimes to beat Gar-Field last week hit the road to battle unbeaten C.D. Hylton tonight.

[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=51-Woodbridge/G.W. Danville vs. C.D. Hylton; :00]

The Eagles still had some steam left despite the long trip up to northern Virginia tonight. But they quickly had their wings clipped. The Eagles squib the opening kickoff down to the 25 where Ahmad Brooks picks it up and takes off. He fakes out a couple of would be tacklers and takes it to the house. GW finds itself in a 7-to-nothing hole with just a 11 seconds off the clock. The George Washington defenders caught their breath and did their best to keep things from getting completely out of hand. The Bulldogs are going to the air and the endzone, but Donald Lyons picks of the pass. The Eagles keep it close.
But only momentarily. C.D. Hylton from it's own 49 fakes it to the right, and go misdirection to the left with Brooks doing the damage. He literally mows down four players before he's brought down at the 10. he gets 41 yards on the carry. Hylton then hits paydirt as Brian Smithen takes it off the left side for a Bulldog TD. It's 13-to-nothing after the blocked kick. The GW offense could do absolutely nothing, but the Eagles' defense did make some plays as David Martin causes the fumble and number 71 Scott Martin recovers. The Eagles are down but not out.
[SUPER=52-G.W. Danville/0/C.D. Hylton/35;]

But C.D. Hylton was just too tough. The Bulldogs' defense gets the interception. Ben Harrison takes the pick all the way back for the score. They win it 35-to-nothing.

The other school still carrying the banner for Pittsylvania County is the only remaining unbeaten - the Gretna Hawks. Gretna ran the table this season going 10-and-0. Last week the Hawks beat defending division three state champ Rustburg in the opening round of the playoffs. Still there are many who see the Hawks as underdogs in their Region 3, Division 3 title game against Liberty tomorrow.
Some have even said this is a "David and Goliath" matchup with Gretna, the team that 6 years ago lost 44 straight games armed with nothing more than a slingshot for this contest.

(( The Warriors came into this Region C title tilt with a 10-and-1 record. And in the first quarter they showed that their record was no fluke. Running back C.J. Kestner breaks through the middle of the Floyd line. He takes it straight up the field 48 yards before he's brought down. That would move the ball to the Floyd 12. Three plays later - quarterback Jerad Ward rolls to his right and right a bullet to C.J. Clark in the endzone. The Warriors take a 6-to-nothing lead in the first quarter. It took Floyd exactly 6 plays to match that score. Isaac Spence swings it out to Micah Kobia, who will take the ball down the sidelines 18 yards for the touchdown and the Buffs have a 7-to-6 lead after one period. Floyd wound score one more time before the half. Spence does some hard nosed running to set up a field goal that gave Floyd a 10-to-6 lead at the half. Late in the third quarter, the Warriors move back in front. Josh DeWease shows some nice second effort to score on a four yard run. Chilhowie takes a 14-to-10 lead into the fourth quarter. With under five minutes to go in the game - Floyd's Spence will drop back and find Brandon Thompson in the middle of three Warrior defenders. He somehow makes the catch and picks up 20 yards to the Chilhowie 21. Seven plays later Derek Mannon covers the final yard on a 4th and goal call. Floyd County goes back on top 17-to-14 with 3:24 to go. Floyd then had to survive a late Chilhowie comeback drive. Ward again hooks up with Clark - this time across the middle. The two pick up 55 yards on the pitch and catch and Chilhowie is now just 21 yards away from claiming the regional title. But on fourth and nine with 1:30 to play, Ward tries to get the first down, but the Buffaloes stop him literally 6 inc

(( If you were with Friday Football Extra way back in August during our persuasion special - you may remember the story we did on how the Chargers raised money to buy brand new home game jerseys, complete with the player's names on the backs of them. The jerseys were big hit, but the quality of the silk screen on them was less than perfect. So, they were sent back to the company that made them. ((CHRIS JONES:)) The away game jerseys worked out just fine at home last week as the Chargers scored 53 points against Rural Retreat. If they can duplicate that tomorrow they'll do something no other Bath team has ever accomplished.
