A year long undercover investigation has helped nab what police say are seven major drug dealers in the Danville Pittsylvania County area. Authotorities say large amounts of cocaine, marijuana and methamphetimine were being imported to Virginia from Mexico. During the arrest they seized 260 thousand dollars in cash, 300 thousand dollars worth of drugs, as well as guns, cars and electronics. All seven men are facing federal drug charges and more indictments are possible.

Authorities are searching for any other gunmen who might have been involved.

Weather experts still don't know if last night's killer storm in western Tennessee was actually a tornado.

Wind damage is also reported in at least three west Tennessee counties.
Many residents say the storm sounded like a freight train.

A new study says switching to lighter cigarettes won't do much to avoid health problems.
The National Cancer Institute says cigarettes marketed as "low tar" or "lighter" don't reduce your chance of getting smoking- related illnesses.
The five decades worth of data in the study also show some people who switched to light cigarettes actually smoked MORE to preserve their nicotine addiction.
A Philip Morris spokesman says the tobacco giant would support greater regulation over the use of terms like "light" and "low- tar."

The federal government is helping the state pay the costs of fighting the recent forest fires.

The state budgeted 500-thousand dollars to fight fires this fiscal year, but has already spent about twice that ... mostly fighting recent blazes in southwest Virginia.
More than 800 fires have broken out since October 15th and charred more 8-thousand acres statewide.
The U-S Forest Service is charging Virginia 35-thousand dollars a day for sending fire crews from western states.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency will likely cover 75-percent of that cost.

25- year- old Shanthi gave birth to the 325- pound baby elephant, who took his first steps shortly after being born.
The birth was made even more special, because the calf was conceived through artificial insemination.
It's only the FIFTH such success in the world for an elephant.

Financially troubled U-S Airways says that Rakesh Gangwal (rah-KESH' GAHNG'-wahl) is out, resigning as president and C-E-O.
In a statement, the airline says Chairman Stephen Wolf will reassume the C-E-O reins within both corporate structures, parent U-S Airways Group and U-S Airways. The Arlington, Virginia-based carrier has been seen among the most at financial risk in the dramatic decline in air travel after September eleventh.
On Wall Street at Noon, the DOW was down 107 points. NASDAQ has lost 18.
