Wayne Sterling was the Chief of Staff for the South Carolina Commerce Department before coming to Henry County.
The Associated Press says Sterling resigned that position in September after an internal investigation questioned some spending from an account funded by private donations.
The investigation alleged that Sterling used money from the privately funded account for personal golf outings.

A spokesman for the South Carolina governor's office said the spending problems were resolved with the departures of Sterling and Communications Director Beth Braswell.
