In a little over a week, the Henry County school board will vote on a plan to consolidate high schools, close three elementary schools, and re-organize others.

Police in Southside are looking for a man who may have information in the case of an elderly man's murder.

The body of 72-year old Ralph Hubbard was found Monday night in a parking area near Clearview Elementary in Martinsville.

Hubbard's truck was found on fire in a ravine off King's Mountain Road.

About a half mile away, this surveillance tape caught a man at the Fas Mart who police say may know something about the case. The man is highlighted in this video. Some new equipment at the Roanoke City Police Department is speeding up the investigation of car accidents.

Last spring, the city purchased high-tech surveying equipment that does away with the need for measuring tapes and rollers. Since the system is adapted for computers, maps that used to take days to draw up can now be printed in a matter of hours. Since there are no strings or tape measures, traffic is usually allowed to continue to move while officers work. The system is also more precise because it uses lasers.

Authorities say 31-year-old Joe Harrington fell some 25-feet off the roof of the new Blacksburg Middle School on Prices Fork Road. The West Virginia resident was flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment. His injuries include a leg fracture but are considered non-life threatening.

The Big East Conference passed out its postseason honors today and Miami dominates the all-Big East team by placing 14 players on the first team. The Hokies meanwhile placed four players on the first team unit and picked up a player of the year honor.

(( Kevin Jones arrived in Blacksburg as the most highly touted recruit in school history. He more than lived up to his billing rushing for a Big East freshman record 957 yard and five touchdowns. Jones only started three games yet he came within 43 yards of reaching the 1000 mark. As a result he has been voted the Big East freshman of the year by the league's head coaches. Tech's only first team selection on offense was Andre Davis who had 39 catches for 623 yards and 7 touchdowns. Three Hokies including Ben Taylor made the first team defensive unit. Taylor had 121 tackles - 18 for losses. David Pugh also makes the first team after recording 50 tackles - 14 for losses. The final first team selection on defense was Ronyell Whitaker who had 53 tackles and 10 pass breakups. Chad Beasley made all-Big East second team honors. Grit's Stacy Compton has signed to drive the Kingsford Charcoal Chevy full-time on the Busch series next season. Stacy also is close to coming terms on a new Cup deal for next year is well. He will NOT be back with Melling Racing. Stacy also plans to drive a select number of truck races, as well in a Dodge.

Governor Jim Gilmore presided for the last time at the annual lighting of the state Christmas tree.
The tree's from Culpeper, and is 30 feet tall, with 2-thousand lights and ornaments.
The governor called it a beacon of freedom.

Those footlights will be shining on the president in Virginia this Friday.
He'll be at the Norfolk Naval Station to mark the 60th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. (------------)
