They're saying only that the "interview" resulted in Hairston's arrest. The break in the case came exactly 72 hours after Hubbard was shot in his truck outside a city elementary school.

Hubbard's Toyota pick-up was found burning in Henry County Monday evening- -just over the city line from Clearview Elementary where Hubbard's body had been discovered just 20 minutes earlier. The two jurisdictions worked the crimes together, but have charged Hairston separately. The Greyson Street resident faces capital murder, robbery, arson and firearms charges. He has at least one prior felony conviction, and is being held without bond.

An argument in Bedford ended with a woman being stabbed this afternoon.
Police say they found Annie M. Jones inside her home on Orange Street. She'd been stabbed three times in the back.
Her condition is not known.

Close to 400 people are out of work at S-C-I Systems in Lynchburg. That's nearly a third of the plant's total workforce.

The layoff announcement came today prompted by what company officials say has been a downturn in the market for cell phone base systems.
The reduction affects both salaried and hourly workers. S-C-I says more than half of them volunteered to take the severance package.
S-C-I took over the cell phone infrastructure business from Ericsson a year ago, and still leases about 375-thousand square feet of the facility on Candlers Mountain Road.
The company says affected workers are being given outplacement services.

The U-S Justice department has finally agreed to end federal oversight of Co-education at Virginia Military Institute.
Judge Jackson Kiser dismissed the 10-year old federal lawsuit against the school.
The court order says that the Commonwealth has implemented a plan that conforms to the equal protection clause of the U-S Constitution.
V-M-I Superintendent Josiah Bunting says he's pleased the school was able to conclude the case without compromising the Institute's core values.
