Roanoke City School officials say the bus driver involved in a fatal accident has an excellent driving record.

He was struck stuck as he crossed the street.

Wachovia's merger with First Union could cost some residents in Roanoke their jobs.
The bank plans to consolidate commercial sales support that is now performed in Roanoke in Winston-Salem, and move commercial-loan services workers from Roanoke to Charlotte.
No word on how many workers could be affected.
Company officials say many of the changes will not be made until the middle of next year or later.

Local Teamsters President Jimmy Sherwood says Volvo is ending its relationship with Hook-Up.

Hook-up hauls the Dublin plant's new rigs to dealers in the U-S and Canada. Sherwood says that by January 31st, Volvo plans to get the service from an out of state hauling company to save money.

Good news for many in Henry County and Martinsville who've recently lost their jobs...
Yesterday, The House of Representatives voted to extend unemployment benefits for 26 more weeks.
That means workers who lose their jobs because of foreign imports or because companies move out of the country would be eligible for 104 weeks of benefits.
The Senate must still approve the plan.

A Danville man is dead after a single car accident in Pittsylvania County early this morning. It occured just after 2 o'clock. State police say the driver, 27-year-old Jason Clifton Lewis, was traveling on route 58 when his car ran off the left side of the highway and overturned. There were no passengers in the car. State police say Lewis was in the U-S Navy.
