An accident on Route 460 sent two people to the hospital and left an oily mess on the roadway.

The accident happened this morning near Thaxton.
Witnesses say a west bound truck malfunctioned, spilling oil and thick smoke.
A car behind the truck slid on the oil and rear-ended the truck.
The driver and a passenger of the car were taken to Bedford Memorial Hospital and later airlifted to Roanoke Memorial.
No word on their condition.
The accident tied up traffic on 460 while VDOT covered the oil with sand.
