Delegate Creigh Deeds easily won yesterday's special election for the redrawn 25th district, which runs from Charlottesville to the West Virginia line.

All precincts have reported in, and here are the totals .. Deeds with more than 20 thousand votes .. overwhelmingly defeated Jane Maddux by a margin greater than two-to-one.

Governor Jim Gilmore will reveal how he plans to plug a billion-dollar hole in the current budget to
state lawmakers today.
He will also unveil his ideas on trimming as much as two billion dollars in spending in the new, two-year budget that takes effect next July.
Since Gilmore leaves office in three-and-a-half weeks, the budget choices will fall to the Legislature and incoming Democratic Governor Mark Warner.

First-degree murder charges have been handed down to a Wythe County teen.
16-year-old Jordan Newberry is accused of stabbing and killing his father, 33-year-old Ronnie Newberry in October.
The boy also faces malicious wounding charges stemming from an attack on his mother.
A grand jury is scheduled to hear the evidence next month to decide if there's enough for an indictment.

Franklin County is looking to the Governor for relief from the drought.

The Board passed a resolution calling for a state of emergency.
Dry weather has affected 72-thousand acres of pasture... an estimated 2-point-6 MILLION dollar loss to farmers.
Drought conditions also took their toll on 36-thousand acres of hay land ... causing 650-thousand dollars in damage.
As a result, pasture land was overgrazed... and farmers have had to delve into winter feed supplies.

The Smith Mountain Lake development includes shops, a golf course, a YMCA and county offices.
