A Fincastle man died after his car was hit by a freight train in Botetourt County shortly after 9:30 this morning.

78 year old George Moore Junior was killed when he backed his Cadillac Seville onto the train tracks at Second Avenue and Norfolk Southern Avenue. A witness to the accident said that Moore had crossed the tracks, and then backed up to clear the single-lane gravel road.

At least fifty people are injured.. Police said another 50 others, mostly children were trapped beneath the rubble.
The collapse happened at the Kolonnade Shopping Center in Pretoria.
Many of the injured were hurt when a glass wall at the rink shattered.
Crews are working to reach those who are trapped- Authorities say it'll take hours to get everyone out.

America's Research Group statistics report four out of five shoppers have spent more of their dollars at the major discount stores -- WalMart, K-Mart and Target.. that's an all time high.
That's causing trouble for high-end department stores, but not for mid-level stores like Penney's.
Managers there say its a "Clothing Year"... that means people are going for sweaters rather than computers... which was last year's gift of choice for many.

Two members of the Roanoke Express will play in the East Coast Hockey League's All star game.
Roanoke Wingers Rick Kowalsky and Vern Fiddler were chosen by the Northern Conference head coaches to play in the 2002 all star game.
Kowalksy, who was chosen as a starter, is Roanoke's leading scorer with 18. He also leads the team with 7 power play goals.
Fiddler is second on the express with 26 points. He has had 10 of those points in the last five contests.
