Nearly four million of that loss came in the fourth quarter.
The loss for 2001 included some charges that the company does not expect to recover.. including a loss of nearly 11-and-a-half million dollars on trading securities.
Despite the poor earnings report, the company enjoyed record sales in 2001.
Sales grew nearly four percent compared to fiscal year 2000.

One was killed in an automobile accident on an icy street and another died when a carport collapsed under the snow.
The Buffalo airport remains closed and driving has been banned in the city.

Nasty weather is to blame for a handful of wrecks that killed at least three people in Pennsylvania. As many as one hundred vehicles crashed in three separate accidents in the central and northeastern parts of the state. Helicopters were called in to transport four of the victims to hospitals and others were brought in by ambulance. A snow squall caused whiteout conditions and dropped a half inch of snow that quickly froze on the highways.

The girl's mother says she's "overwhelmed with joy" to have her baby back.

Police say a man held up the First National Exchange Bank on 9th Street around lunchtime.
He had covered his face with a cloth or his shirt, and stuck his hand in a pocket as if he had a gun.

A truck carrying food to the Homestead Resort overturned this morning, killing a man.

The accident happened about eight thirty on Route 220 near Hot Springs.
Witnesses say the driver of the Maryland based truck ran off the road and hit a tree.
He then swerved back into the road and the truck flipped.
The impact crushed the cab of the truck, killing the driver.
The truck's cargo of fruits and vegetables spilled across the highway, backing up traffic while VDOT cleaned up the mess.

It's unclear what happened to the driver of a tanker truck that exploded into flames in Florida today. Authorities say the rig was carrying a flammable liquid that caught fire when the truck crashed. The accident closed both directions of the Veteran's Expressway near Tampa International Airport. Several foam trucks from the airport's fire department responded to the scene in hopes of containing the blaze. There are no reports of injuries so far.

The Roanoke Express blew a lead in the third period and Charlotte skates away with a 4 to 3 overtime win over the Express.

The Express comes out in the third period leading 1 to nothing.
Roanoke would extend that lead to 2 to 1 when Rick Kowalsky skates in for the shot and scores to make it 2 to 1.
But the Checkers rallied from behind down 3 to 1. Kevin Hilton gets the puck just inside the blue line and fires the shot for the score to tie it at 3 to 3 and send it to overtime.

Then Andrew Taylor gets the loose puck and scores on the slap shot and the Checkers win it in overtime 4 to 3.

(( Way back in the spring as Grant Noel was walking into Rector Field house for his first workout as the Hokies starting quarterback he wasn't the only one trying to absorb as much as possible. In a practice that is commonplace among college programs that respect each other, but don't usually compete against one another - Florida State's coaching staff spent a weekend in Blacksburg in the spring. The FSU coaches weren't just given an open door policy, but also an open play book.
