Yesterday, this lot at the Saturn dealership on Timberlake Road was completely empty.. today cars were being moved back into place.
Campbell County levies a tax on any inventory that's in place on January 1st... by moving the cars off their lots, dealers won't have to declare that inventory.
Shelor Automotive in Montgomery County first started the practice in 1998, and the state Supreme Court declared it legal last spring.
Commissioner of Revenue Calvin Massie says the county stands to lose more than one hundred thousand dollars in taxes.
Calls to the car dealers' spokesman were not returned.
