Authorities in Brazil are threatening to send a weatherman to jail for missing a forecast.
The mayor of Rio de Janeiro is asking prosecutors to seek charges against Luiz Carlos Austin for predicting heavy rain on New Year's Eve -- a prediction that did not come true.
The area had seen torrential rains last week, producing terrible mudslides.
The mayor says Austin was irresponsible to predict more rain at a time when so many people were worried about the weather.
A prosecutor says he'll probably charge Austin with sounding a false alarm -- a crime that could carry up to six months in prison.
Austin has been forecasting weather for 35 years.
He denies acting irresponsibly -- and says a cold front simply broke up sooner than expected.
