It was self defense says hockey dad Thomas Junta...as he told the jury
what happened the day he beat to death another parent - Michael Costin
at a Massachusetts ice rink on July 5, 2000.

"We were all in that little area, he said something about the hockey
again, then he bumped into me and we went at it."
Junta says that Costin was the aggressor in the second of their two
confrontations that day, swinging wildly at Junta when he returned to
the rink to get his son and some friends who were still in the locker
room.

"As soon as we hit the floor he was using his knees to try and kick me
and he was trying to punch me."
Junta was in tears as he recalled that several children ..including his
ten year old son had watched the punches fly.
Prosecutors hammered away at Junta's testimony, saying he attacked the
physically smaller Costin after becoming enraged over rough play that
was taking place at the childrens practice. Costin lost consciousness
after the fight and was pronounced dead the next day.

Prosecution witnesses said Junta beat Costin's head on the floor and
punched him repeatedly.

Earlier, a medical expert hired by the defense said that one punch could
have been enough to cause the fatal injury...and Junta held fast to his
claim that he only delivered... three blows.

The big cat lost his eye and nearly died when an Afghan guerilla threw a grenade into his pit.

The Animal team is arriving today to provide treatment at the zoo as well as widening their operation to include livestock, working animals and stray dogs.

Don Reid of The Statler Brothers says the group has decided to stop touring after 40 years on the road.
Saying it's time to kick back and sleep late, Reid confirmed the Statlers' last concert will be on November first.
But fans should not worry, Reid says the Staunton based group will continue to record. They're currently working on a gospel album.
In addition to their hit records, the Statlers had the top rated variety show on television for much of the '90's.
