Dan River plans to expand its facilities in Brookneal and Danville, creating 135 jobs.
Word on that came last month, but today, Governor Gilmore announced the company will receive 175-thousand dollars.. from the state's Tobacco Region Opportunity Funds .. to help assist in the expansion.
Dan River is closing plants in Georgia and South Carolina and moving those jobs to Virginia.

Police are investigating a shooting in Northwest Roanoke that left one man dead.

He died beside his truck at the Ferncliff Apartments around 4-thirty this morning.
He had been shot in the basement hallway of a nearby building.
Witnesses say he ran from the building, started to drive away and collapsed while climbing back out of his truck.
Candice Couser (COW-SER) was awakened when a bullet went through her front door, an interior wall, and then landed in her kitchen.
She says the man sometimes visited nearby apartments.

State Police say a young black man was pushing a scooter across Interstate 5-8-1 near the Hershberger Road exit when he was hit by a truck.
He was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with what are described as very serious injuries.
Police say the driver of the truck was traveling at the speed limit, and no charges will be filed.

Speed may be to blame for a single car accident in Salem this morning that killed one man and sent another to the hospital. .
22-year old Leslie L. Gordon of Roanoke died after being ejected when the car he was riding in struck a utility pole on Roanoke Boulevard around one a.m.
The impact broke the car in half.
The driver, 33-year old Terry C. Burns, also of Roanoke, is hospitalized in critical condition.
Police aren't sure if alcohol played a role or if the men were wearing seatbelts.
No charges have been filed.

With testing bringing the Daytona International Speedway back to life this week, it seems ironic that the death of Dale Earnhardt is again making news.
Six Florida newspapers and a Florida TV station are challenging the Florida law that prohibits the viewing or copying of autopsy photos without a court order.
The papers filed in Broward County circuit court claim the law that was passed last year at the urging of Teresa Earnhardt is interfering with criminal and civil cases and medical education.
