A federal judge says the prosecutor violated rules of criminal procedure in the case of Christiansburg Attorney Keith Neely. Judge Jackson Kiser stopped short, however, of finding Prosecutor Karen Peters in contempt of court for reviewing grand jury materials with Neely's secretary. Peters left the Roanoke U-S Attorney's Office last year to become an Administrative Law Judge, so it would be difficult to impose sanctions against her. Judge Kiser points out sanctions wouldn't help Neely, and the U-S Attorney's Office can no longer repair the damage. Neely is back behind bars, serving a 10-year sentence for drug dealing and money laundering, still fighting for a new trial.
