Mark Warner is sworn in as Virginia's 69th Governor, and extends his hand to the Republican leadership of the General Assembly.
Good evening, I'm Teresa Hamilton.
Warner said his first priority is to preserve the state's financial integrity, and he called on lawmakers to put aside the partisan differences that resulted in last year's budget impasse.

Joe Dashiell is in Richmond tonight with more on the inaugural ceremonies, the Governor's speech, and reaction from the lawmakers he must work with.

((Governor Jim Gilmore said his goodbyes... the First Lady wiped away tears, as the couple prepared to leave the Executive Mansion one last time.
Mark Warner, his wife Lisa Collis and their three daughters arrived on the South Portico of the State Capitol under blue skies... and watched as Republican Attorney General Jerry Kilgore,

and Democratic Lieutenant Governor Tim Kaine were sworn in...

In his inaugural address, Warner asked Virginians to put aside partisan differences and attack together the difficult financial problems the commonwealth faces.

Warner delivered a speech of broad themes, deliberately avoiding any specifics. In the General Assembly, the devil is in the details.

Authorities say an evening of drinking turned deadly in Botetourt County.
Sheriff's Deputies responded to a home on Narrow Passage Road just after seven o'clock last night.
They arrived to find 47-year old William Clayton Sanders Jr. dead from a single gun shot wound to the chest.
Deputies have arrested Victor Loyd Rycroft and charged him with first degree murder.
The shooting happened at Rycroft's residence in Eagle Rock.
The investigation revealed the two men got into an argument after several hours of drinking with friends.
Rycroft is being held at the Botetourt County jail.[Grayson-Murder]
Authorities in Grayson County say a Trout Dale man has been arrested and charged with killing his three-year-old son.
Officials say Roland Shane Griffith is charged with second-degree murder and felony abuse and neglect of Dorian Zahir Cox.
The boy died August 31st at a hospital after falling down a wooden stairway.
It's been nearly two months since a Roanoke landmark shuts its doors.
Since then, supporters of the Grandin theater have been working to acquire, refurbish, and re-open the facility.
As Justin McLeod discovered it may take some Hollywood magic to bring the Grandin back to life.

When you drive by the Grandin Theater, you'll see the doors are locked and the box office boarded up.
Two months ago, hard economic times and competition from mega movie plexes forced the Grandin to close.

So is the Grandin Theatre Foundation.
The group needs to raise 1.2 million dollars to purchase and re-open the theater.
In November, Roanoke's city council committed 500-thousand dollars to the project over six years.
But the city's contribution is a dollar to dollar matching grant.

In less than a week, the group has already sold more than forty stars.
They hope to sell five hundred by the end of February.

The foundation has until May to raise the necessary funds.
They hope to have the Grandin renovated and up and running again by late Spring.

Still ahead on News 7 at 6, firefighters are called to the First Union tower today,
but this wasn't an emergency. It's part of training for handling fires in skyscrapers. We'll have that and more, but first, let's check in with Jacey in the Weathercenter.
Firefighters responded to the First Union Tower in downtown Roanoke this morning.
But the call itself wasn't real.
The Roanoke Fire Department held a training exercise in which firefighters had to respond to a report of a fire on the 12th floor.
The purpose was to allow crews to see what its like fighting fires in a high rise building.

The entire department could not take part in today's exercise.
So someone taped the incident to be used for a training video that will be passed around to area fire stations.

A local charity not only constructs homes, it now sells the materials used to build them.
Habitat for Humanity recently opened a clearance store on Patterson Avenue in Roanoke.
Money generated from the store will be used to help build homes for needy families.
The store sells new and used building supplies well below retail prices.

And coming up in sports, The Roanoke Express is on the road tonight the Virginia Cavaliers get their first win in the A-C-C this afternoon.
And Virginia Tech was looking for its first Big East Win this afternoon hosting 25-th ranked Miami at the Cassell.
The Virginia Cavaliers snapped a two game losing streak in Chapel Hill today. Rober Mason scored 18 points to lead the 7-th ranked Cavalirs to a 71 to 67 win over North Carolina.

Virginia led by four points at the break.
But Carolina's Brian Morrison came in and hit a three pointer to make the score 44 to 40 Tar Heels.
Virginia hung tough 14 minutes into the second half Mason gets out after the turnover and hits the three to tie the game at 50.
The Tar Heels then went inside to Kris Lang who scores 2 of his 18 giving Carolina a 2 point lead.
Then with 5 minutes left in the game Adam Halls three pointer made it 63 to 59 Virginia.
Carolina tied it at 63 but Virginia pulled away and the Cavaliers get the 71 to 67 win.
Virginia Tech was at the Cassell this looking for its first Big East victory against the 21-st ranked Miami Hurricanes.

Perry Clark and his Canes also looking for a conference win.
The Hokies led by 4 early in the first half but when Darius Rice hit this three pointer the Canes trailed by one.

Miami's Elton Tyler will take it to the hoop and score off the glass and the Canes took a 2 point lead.
