The White House doctor says President Bush is doing O-K now...
He fainted briefly after choking on a pretzel while watching a football game on T-V.
A doctor says Bush scraped his cheek and bruised his lip when he fell off the couch.
The fainting spell occurred at approximately 5:30 today.

Police are investigating a POSSIBLE homicide in Danville tonight.
Officials say residents at 128 Moorefield Lane found their son dead on the floor.
Police are still on the scene.

((The kids you see here all attend Virgilina Elementary School.
Residents call it a landmark.
After all, the school is more than a hundred years old.
But it's also one of the lowest enrolled schools in the county.

Declining enrollment is partly the reason why the school district wants to close it.
The school is also in need of major renovations.
Even so, some parents say the school should stay rather than close.

Parents say this petition proves it.
They've collected more than 13-hundred signatures from people who oppose the consolidation plan.
Residents have also gained a valuable ally.
Last week, the Board of Supervisors voted 6 to 2 to ask the school board to keep Virgilina open.

Adminstrators also argue the plan would bring more education opportunities to the school system.
Right now, it is difficult for the county to offer special programs at smaller schools.
But many parents say closing Virgilina could do more harm than good.

Virgilina's Elementary School is not the only thing that's more than a hundred years old in Halifax County.
This year, the county celebrates its 250th anniversary.
Several events are planned throughout the year including reenactments, a series of speakers, and a town party scheduled for May 11th in South Boston.
The county is also selling commemorative flags to mark the occasion.

The flags sell for sixty dollars and you can pick one up at the Halifax County museum or the Chamber of Commerce.
Later this year, the county plans to build a war memorial across from the courthouse.
That project should be completed in time for a dedication ceremony scheduled for Veteran's Day.

State police have attached new meaning to the phrase "Got Milk".
A tractor trailer hauling gallon jugs of milk overturned this evening along Route 220 in Henry County-
It happened shortly before five o'clock as the driver navigated the Greensboro exit.
The truck was on its way to Charlotte.

Traffic was rerouted for several hours-- while crews cleaned up the wreck.

Firefighters had their work cut out for them in Montgomery County today.
The wind and terrain made it difficult for firefighters trying to put out a forest fire near Ironto.
Approximately 20- acres had burned by mid-afternoon.
Crews from Montgomery County were out in full force.
They also called in assistance from Pulaski, Christiansburg and Blacksburg.
Firefighters worked to put out a fire in Moneta earlier today.
Units responded to the scene of an older home on Old Moneta Road.
Five firefighters were later hospitalized for observation.. two have since been released.
Crews from Bedford and Franklin County were called in to help.

The Ringgold Fire Department is slowly but surely getting back on its feet.
Two weeks ago today, the firestation burned down causing more than six hundred thousand dollars in damage.
Several area fire stations have loaned trucks and other equipment so firefighters can continue to answer calls.
The community has also stepped in, donating more than thirteen thousand dollars so far.

Plans were already underway to build a new station before the fire.
The county hopes to begin construction next month on a new facility a half mile down the road.
Next Saturday, the Fire Department will hold a stew and bake sale to help raise the 125-thousand dollars needed for the project.
A historic landmark is no more in Louisiana tonight.

Fire destroyed the historic courthouse in (PLAQUE-MENS) Plaquemines Parish last night.
The building has been in use since the late 1800s.
Many historic documents were stored in the building and residents quickly gathered to try and save what they could.
The landmark had survived three hurricanes, but observers say the age of the building made it defenseless against fire.
Arson is not suspected and no one was injured.

Virginia's new Governor gets down to business tomorrow, but today there were more inaugural activities in Richmond.
Warner's cabinet was sworn in during a brief ceremony at the State Capitol.

Debates over Enron's demise hit the airwaves today - we'll tell you what all the heat is about next

Key Bush Administration officials are denying any wrongdoing with regards to the collapse of Enron.
The downfall of the energy trading company was the main topic on the Sunday talk shows.
Congress is investigating whether Enron misled its investors while company executives got rich.

Enron C.E.O. Kenneth Lay one month before the 7th largest company in
America spiralled into financial ruin.
And while Lay suggested Enron needed help from the White House, both men
say they never acted on behalf of the energy trader.

Since those calls -- Enron's collapse has left its stock virtually
worthless -- decimating the pension funds for thousands of its workers.
The downfall of the compnay -- which made huge contributions to the
Bush 2000 campaign -- came as no surprise to Treasury Secretary Paul
O'Neill who said on one Sunday talk show, "companies come and go."
O'Neill defended his decision against intervening on Enron's behalf.

Senator Joseph Lieberman called some of O'Neill's comments
And because Enron has contributed vast sums of money to both Democrats
and Republicans Lieberman said it may be necessary for an independent

But that's little comfort to former Enron employees who want top company
executives behind bars.

More Afghan prisoners are on their way to a U-S Navy base in Cuba.
The 30- Taliban and al-Qaida fighters left Kandahar in a C-17 transport plane late today.
Security was tight... the prisoners wee shackled, and wore caps over their faces and each was guarded by two U-S soldiers.
Meanwhile, U-S bombers have been pounding a complex of caves and tunnels in the rugged hills of eastern Afghanistan.

Britain's Prince Harry is making headlines overseas...
The News of the World tabloid is reporting that Prince Harry got drunk with friends and smoked marijuana last summer, when he was just 16.
When Prince Charles got word of it, he sent 17- year old Harry to a drug rehab center to spend a day talking with recovering addicts about substance abuse.

The Washington Redskins have fired head coach Marty Shotthenheimer.

Shottenheimer met with his representatives and Redskins owner Dan Snyder at noon to talk about issues related to his contract, if fired he would be owed 7 point 5 million dfollars over three years.
Shottenheimer and Snyder had planned to meet again tomorrow but he was summoned back to Redskins Park tonight and fired as the teams head coach.
Snyder has been frustrated with Shottenheimer's refusal to surrender some of his authority over personnel decisions to a new general manager.
It's also reported that Snyder's effort to hire Bobby Beathard as general manager have failed.
With Shottenheimer out expect the Redskins to hire former Florida coach Steve Spurrier.
Sources say Spurrier has agreed in principle to take over as head coach. The deal would be worth 25 million over 5 years.
But This weekend Spurrier told the A-P that he has not met with Redskin owner Daniel Snyder or his right hand man, Pepper Rodgers.
He did say he was talking to some teams and that something will probably happen next week.
The Redskins and Carolina Panthers seem most interested in Spurrier.
Green Bay has moved into the next round of the N-F-L playoffs.
Brett Favre threw a pair of touchdowns to lead the Packers to a 25 to 15 win over the San Francisco 49-ers.

Favre is always geared up for the playoff games.

The Packers opened the second half witn a score. Favre goes up top and hits Bubba Franks on the 19 yard touchdown reception but again the Pack missed the extra point.
San Fransicso quarterback Jeff Garcia ties the game in the fourth when he hits Tai Streets on the 14 yard touchdown. He also hit Streets on the 2 point conversion to knot the game at 15.

If you have the winter blues the Salem Carnival was the place to be this weekend.
The carnival was held inside the Salem Civic Center all weekend.
While the event mainly drew younger children there were activities for all ages....
Games, rides and food were the main attractions.
The carnival also came to Salem last year.
