A southwest Virginia legislator has introduced a bill aimed at curbing abuse of the powerful painkiller OxyContin.
Bristol Senator William Wampler says his bill was requested by Attorney General Jerry Kilgore.
The bill would let Virginia State Police use a computer database to track people who go to more than one doctor, or to multiple pharmacies to get OxyContin.
The state health department would report any discrepancies to police.
Wampler says problems increased in southwest Virginia when Kentucky started using the computerized tracking system.
There is ONE big obstacle to the program, though.
It would cost about a million dollars.
