Three dead... three injured... in Far Southwest Virginia. Just after one o'clock this afternoon a student walked into the office of the Dean of the Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, shot and killed Dean Anthony Sutin- -execution style. Then the shooter did the same to Professor Thomas Blackwell.

The gunman also shot four students, killing one, seriously injuring the other three.

We're told the gunman was an exchange student who'd been expelled from the school today. Though the shooter was armed with a .380 semi-automatic handgun, there are reports that other students were able to apprehend him. Dean Sutin was a graduate of Harvard Law School who advised the Democratic National Committee on campaign finance issues. He also worked on Bill Clinton's first election campaign in 1992. Appalachian Law School is only about five years old and graduated its first class of 34 students in 2000. Federal Judge Glen Williams of Abingdon was instrumental in establishing the school. Today's shooting occurred in Grundy, a small mining town in Buchanan County a few miles from Kentucky and West Virginia.
