Speaking of building- the city is handing over nine acres in Kennedy Park to build a new Roanoke Academy for Mathematics and Science.
But the debate goves on over whether the old building should be condemned or preserved.

The school board hopes to complete the new 10-million dollar school over the next two years.

A soldier admits to killing a Moneta woman- he could spend life in prison.

27-year old Christopher Haynes this morning pled guilty to first degree murder in the death last January of Tina Louise Foster.

The 20-year old student and waitress met Haynes at the Hooters restaurant on Williamson road. He offered her 2-hundred dollars if she'd let him take pictures of her. The aspiring model disappeared after meeting Haynes later that night. Days later, she was found beaten to death in her car behind a Roanoke motel. While being arrested for the crime Haynes confessed and even wrote an apology to Foster's parents.

Chapter 11 reorganization would allow Kmart to close its under performing stores and get out of its leases with 30 days notice... but the plan right now is to keep its 2,114 Kmart stores open.

United Airline mechanics could be getting a big raise.
The airline says it will go along with a presidential panel that recommended a 34 percent wage increase -- the first pay increase for mechanics there since 1994.
The move is a victory for the union and likely will avert a threatened strike.

Later, Hollins Lauren McKee would shoot Hollins in front by 4 points with this 3 point basket for the home team. The Eagles' Katie Brennan then hits this short jumper for two of her team high 14. Sarah Hagood also had 14.

But Salem would road back in a major way as Mark Shirley get free inside. Salem cuts the lead into single digits.

This was relatively uneventful in the first period as defense of all things dominated in the all-star tilt. It was tied at one-all after one. It was 4-to-2 South after two periods, before things blew up in the third. North Star Vern Fiddler of the Express leads a wicked North comeback with this goal.

News 7 sports has learned that Kevin Clifford will replace Jeff Johnson as the new head football coach at Patrick Henry High school. Clifford has been an assistant coach at PH the last five years and was the assistant head coach last season should get formal school board approval later in the week. Also, sources tell News 7 that the Glenvar head football coaching job will go to Byrd assistant coach Lee Johnson. Longtime followers of Friday Football Extra will remember Johnson from his playing days at Salem.

He was all-state, all-region and all-American. He also is an excellent student with a 3 point 7 GPA and he scored 1190 on his SATs. He hopes to major in engineering.
