Roanokers must now comply with some mandatory water restrictions.

Without significant rainfall, Roanoke could see mandatory water restrictions around the clock, if Carvins Cove falls to 26 feet below the spillway.
The drought conditions cover most of the east coast and have been developing for more than three years. The winter season will usually recharge the water table but we've seen very little snow cover. So for the moment, this is a hydrologic drought, meaning water supplies like Carvins Cove are affected. But National Weather Service forecaster, Mike Gillen, says an agricultural drought is just around the corner.

Jackson's charged with three counts of mail fraud and three counts of wire fraud.

Jackson has been in federal custody since his arrest in November and is being evaluated to determine his competency to stand trial.

A state medical examiner confirms a Campbell County man found dead in his home yesterday died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Farinacci died a short while later at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Federal authorities suspect employees at a Christiansburg firm have been falsifying the inspection of compressed gas cylinders.
Fire Safety Products conducts tests on tanks used as air packs, dive tanks and C-O-2 fire extinguishers.
But federal court documents indicate Fire Safety Products routinely "dry stamped" cylinders, approving them for re-use, withOUT performing hydrostatic and visual inspections.
Because they're subject to high pressure, the cylinders can rupture if they're not properly inspected.
Such violations- -if proven- -would jeopardize the lives of firefighters, SCUBA divers and nursing home patients.
Federal agents seized 17 boxes of company records yesterday.
An attorney for the company points out no charges have been filed in the case.

Today marks the death of St. Valentine... but which one?
According to the Catholic list of martyrs there are at least three Saint Valentines under the date of February 14th.
One is described as a priest at Rome, another was an Italian bishop and a third lived in Africa.
But, the Italian bishop is the one most accepted as the saint behind Valentine's Day.... and is the one these people gathered to recognize in Terni Italy today.
He was put to death in 270 A-D for disobeying a ban on Christianity.
Romance is associated with this date because spring is near and it is said to be when birds select their mates.
