State police say excessive speed probably was a factor in a crash that killed two men in Campbell County this morning.

The accident happened around 10:30 on Route 600 east of Brookneal.
Witnesses told police this Corvette passed them at a high speed on a "double- yellow line" just before the vehicle veered off the road and hit a tree.
51-year old Shuler David Swint and 47-year old Allen Nelson Wright.. both of Brookneal.. were killed instantly.
Police say neither man was wearing his seatbelt.

A faulty power strip apparently started a fire at a Roanoke pawn shop this morning.

The blaze started shortly after 4 A-M at The Pawn Shop Two. Fire officials say a power strip underneath a counter malfunctioned, starting a fire - it caused a quarter-million dollars in damage. Most of the damage was done to showroom merchandise, while very little of the customer merchandise was damaged. Store officials are asking customers to go to their other location on Cove Road, until the building can be repaired.

A court case in eastern Virginia has a woman vowing to go to jail .. before she gives up her "baby".
It's not really her baby .. it's her dog "Princess", who's now in the middle of a divorce case.
Katherine Smith says she won't part with her white Maltese .. even though it violates a temporary order giving the couple's belongings to her husband.
So far, the judge isn't sending Smith to jail, but she may be in the doghouse.
